"Better Road Initiative 2009 (BRI-2009)"
to Nech Sar National Park (NSNP).
NEW: (001211)
An application letter to have Better Road constructed to Nech Sar National Park (NSNP) has been submitted to Ethiopian authorities in National, Regional, and Local level. Currently, we are waiting to hear from them.
Nech Sar National Park (NSNP) is full of naturally gifted beauties situated in Great African Rift Valley East of Arba Minch town within short distance. The distance from down town Arba Minch to NSNP border is about 10 km.
Enjoy eye-catching images in this site to see for yourself.

Arba Minch town is 500 km South of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is a tourist hub town, which is the gate to different parks in the area.
Parks include Mago National Park, which is about 270 Km South West of Arba Minch, and Omo National Park, (the biggest park in the country), is located about 370 km South of Arba Minch town. There are other parks in the area including within walking distance. See the lists below.
Two Lakes surround NSNP. Lake Abaya in North, and Lake Chamo in South. A mountain between two lakes is called "Yegzeabeher Dildiy," in Amharic, meaning, God's bridge, because it is land bridge not made by human. Also this bridge is pathway to NSNP.
Apart from stunning views and sceneries, you will enjoy variety of animal and plant species including Zebras, Swayne antelopes, baboons, birds and other animals that were not listed here.
In order to access and utilize the park more efficiently, this park needs better road. In order to have better road, we need serious, well-organized and honest commitment from both public and authorities. In order to get positive attention and consideration from authorities, we need full public participation and enough support. So please provide your helpful opinion how to improve our parks.
If we have better road to NSNP, we might not need preferences with vehicles to access this park. We can access this park virtually with any kind of transportation including cars, buses, mini buses (Van), and even motorbikes and bicycles. In current road condition, only 4WD SUV vehicles (Cobras) can access this park.
To have flocks of human herds to NSNP in the future, we need serious commitment to have better road constructed.
If the road is improved, more domestic visitors and international tourists can be attracted and increase the moral and flow of tourists to the country. The economical importance from tourists should not be ignored.
Parks are one of the resources known in generating local and national economies so let's support the effort of "Better Road Initiative 2009" to have better access to NSNP and other parks and attractions in the area.
Parks and other attractions in Arba Minch area include:
- Arba Minch Drinking Water supply facilities, (under process of upgrade)
- Arba Minch Crocodile Farm.
- Nech Sar National Park,
- Chamo Lake Crocodile Market,
- Arba Minch Groundwater Forest
Other tourist attractions in the area are:
Konso town:

Konso town is located 87 km South of Arba Minch and it is one of favourite international tourist destinations in the area. It is known for its unique landscape attraction called "New York" (as seen on the picture above) and also terrace farming. The Konso people are known for their woodcarving skills and unique traditional songs with flute-like instruments and dances.
Gughe Mountain: Located in West of Arba Minch. In order to go to Gughe Mountain, you have to exit through Secha/Shecha, up town Arba Minch.
Dorze town:
Dorze town is located 29 km North of Arba Minch in highland area. This area is also known for its Elephant nose shaped tall houses made from bamboo trees. These houses have chimneys instead of windows. Dorze town is also known for its open outdoor mark place, trace farming, false banana plantation, and bamboo trees.
Dorze people are known for their weaving skills for colourful Ethiopian traditional cloths. Ethiopian traditional cloths are said to be first made by Dorze people. These cloths are now sold in major stores and malls in Addis Ababa and other cities and towns in the country.
Chencha town: Located 37 km North of Arba Minch and it is the former capital of Gamo gofa provice in Southern Ethiopia. The distance between Dorze and Chencha is 8 km. Chencha town has hospital that provides 24 hours services.
